HOW TO KEEP MICE OUT OF CAMPERS

I don’t know about you but we've been having an ongoing battle with mice getting into my trailer lately. I thought I had the situation under control but last season these little buggers threw me a curve ball.
Once I discovered sonar plug-ins I never saw a mouse for over a dozen years and swore it was because I used them at various outlets inside my camper. Of course, this required keeping the electricity on throughout the entire year and was an added expense that was well worth it as far as I was concerned.
When we first arrived last spring, we couldn't pinpoint why mice were suddenly getting in. We had done some renovations that involved changing the plumbing and thought we blocked any way for them to gain access but somehow they found their way inside. Oh they were having a grand old time scampering around in my cupboards and eventually in between the walls! They were bold too as they continued to enter regardless we were there or not. One night we counted six that came in one at a time to meet their demise at the same spot. I'll let you read between the lines and hope you know what I mean happened to them...
“I’m not sure if you have ever dealt with a mouse problem in your home or RV, but those little guys can be a huge problem and we gathered up the best ideas for how to keep mice out of campers, garages, and houses. This is by far one of the cheapest (and most cruelty-free) method to keep the critters away. No need for traps!”
Here are a few suggestions to keep the mice away:
1. Soak cotton balls with peppermint oil and place them in suspected areas…
2. Moth balls are also a good idea. I personally do not prefer to use this, but others do not mind the smell…
3. Place dryer sheets in areas that you suspect critters to enter or hide. Be sure to change the dryer sheets every few weeks to keep the scent strong enough to keep them away…
4. Place a bar or two of Irish Spring soap in your trailer. Critters absolutely hate the strong smell of the soap, and will stay far away from it. You can also leave the bars of soap in your garage, basement, or anywhere else you suspect pests are hiding…
Some other ways to keep the mice away…Steel Wool – covering holes that mice can get through, they don’t like the metal. Aluminum Foil – blocking passages. Keeping areas clean and tidy will really help giving critters no areas to hide in. Also making sure all food is put away and sealed.
Although we've gone over our trailer with a fine toothed comb, blocking every single hole visible to the naked eye, we some how have a feeling we have guests while we're away. This year when I was closing up our trailer, I made sure to cover all my bases. I had contemplated turning off the electricity since having it on made no difference. But I changed my mind at the last minute and left it on in case my trusty old plug-ins still have some effect. There are bars of Irish Spring, dryer sheets spread out everywhere along with a sprinkle here and there of Mint Extract. If all fails at least I'll know that my trailer will smell good when I return in the spring!
Let me know if you tried any of these methods or if you have your own solution to winning the battle between you and the mice.
Happy Camping,
Deb
