A Tribute to my Friend: There was just something about Donnie that made you want to spend time with him and have him as a friend. From the moment I met Donnie, I felt as though I had known him for years. Donnie struck me as a man who was set in his ways but if you paid close enough attention and really got to know him, you would also see the softness of his heart. During our early days at Stonewall he was there to lend a hand to cut down trees, spread concrete, hang drywall or help whatever way he could. But most of all he was our friend. Many times Donnie could be found with his best buddy Lenny. The two were inseparable and were friends for many years. Life was never the same at the trailer after Lenny was gone. Other times one could find Donnie sporting his favourite outfit, his comfy pyjama bottoms while sitting in his gazebo or addition having a chat, sipping on a cold one with someone who dropped by. Before long others would wonder over and join them knowing they were guaranteed a friendly welcome and perhaps a chuckle or two. Then as if on cue a roar of laughter could be heard coming from Merrywood Drive because Donnie had just cracked a joke that often brought us close to tears.
Out of all the memories I have, the one that stands out most to me is Donnie's love for Sandra, his girls and most of all, his grandchildren.
Rest in peace dear friend. Rich and I will truly miss you.
Deb
